Salcedo is remembered at his funeral. The 33-year-old and his wife, Betzy, had traveled to her hometown of Gomez Palacio, Mexico, and were out with friends the night before New Years Eve when unknown gunmen entered a bar and forced Salcedo and five other men to leave. Today’s service in El Monte followed an event on Jan. 4 at Mountain View High School, when thousands of people filled the bleachers to remember Salcedo, a former student and later an administrator at the high school. (Mark Boster / Los Angeles Times)
