Dodgers: The week ahead
TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY: AT ANGELS
FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY: VS. NEW YORK YANKEES
The Dodgers are celebrating “55 since ‘55” this year, in commemoration of the franchise’s first World Series championship. The Brooklyn Dodgers beat the New York Yankees that year, but the Dodgers are not honoring their 1955 team when the Yankees come to town next weekend. Nonetheless, some history: The Dodgers used six starting pitchers in the seven-game series. The only pitcher to start twice, Johnny Podres, pitched a complete game both times, including a 2-0 victory in Game 7. This was the only World Series championship for the Brooklyn teams immortalized in “The Boys of Summer,” the only ring won by Hall of Famers Jackie Robinson, Pee Wee Reese and Roy Campanella.
