No. 3 Alabama 38, at Kentucky 20: Mark Ingram ran for a career-high 140 yards and two touchdowns against mistake-prone Kentucky. Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy added a pair of scoring passes as the Crimson Tide (5-0, 2-0) pulled away from the Wildcats (2-2, 0-2) during a dizzying stretch in the second and third quarters when it scored 24 points in just over five minutes.
No. 21 Mississippi 23, at Vanderbilt 7: Jevan Snead passed for three touchdowns to overcome his three interceptions for the Rebels. Snead threw for only one touchdown in last week’s loss to South Carolina, a game that dropped the Rebels (3-1, 1-1) from a No. 4 ranking that had been their highest since 1970. The Commodores (2-3, 0-2) picked off four Snead passes a year ago in Oxford, Miss., and they nearly matched that with Jamie Graham, Casey Heyward and Myron Lewis each intercepting a pass.
No. 25 Georgia Tech 42, at Mississippi State 31: Josh Nesbitt threw for a career-high 266 yards and the Yellow Jackets (4-1) converted three Mississippi State turnovers into touchdowns. Nesbitt connected with Demaryius Thomas eight times for 174 yards and a 23-yard touchdown. The Yellow Jackets and Bulldogs (2-3) both scored on reverses and converted a combined six fourth downs, including a fake field goal by Mississippi State.
Auburn 26, at Tennessee 22: Chris Todd threw for 218 yards and a touchdown, and Ben Tate ran for 128 yards and a score as the Tigers (5-0, 2-0) won their fifth in a row over the Volunteers (2-3, 0-2). Auburn’s third-ranked offense slowly wore Tennessee down, piling up 459 yards and dominating time of possession by 10 minutes.
at South Carolina 38, South Carolina State 14: Stephen Garcia threw two touchdowns, rushed for another score and the Gamecocks improved to 4-1. South Carolina State (3-1) fell to 0-5 against Football Bowl Subdivision teams.
