UTAH
Moab river trip
Go rafting on the Colorado River, serenaded by performers from the Moab Music Festival. The three-night, flat-water trip benefits the festival. A one-day extension to ride the Cataract Canyon rapids is available.
Itinerary: Anasazi ruins at the confluence of the Green and Colorado rivers in Canyonlands National Park.
Dates: June 17 to 20; rapids extension, June 21.

BIG SUR
Hidden gardens
Tour private gardens in the redwoods at homes that overlook the Pacific Ocean.
Itinerary: The self-guided walking and driving tour includes more than 10 gardens in Big Sur. Musicians and plein air painters dot the route.
Dates: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 23, followed by art sale until 6 p.m.
Price: $60 per person; benefits the Big Sur Arts Initiative, an arts enrichment program.

TONGA
Snorkeling with humpback whales
Watch humpback whales for six days in the waters surrounding Vavau Island, accompanied by a naturalist from the Oceanic Society.

Price: $4,550 per person, double occupancy, including round-trip airfare from Los Angeles, eight nights’ lodging, most meals and a chartered 28-foot powerboat. Snorkeling gear is not included.

CANADA
The Broughton Archipelago
Cruise to the coastal villages and ancient sites of the indigenous Kwakwakawakw of British Columbia aboard the 23-passenger Columbia III. Curator Lillian Hunt of the Umista Cultural Centre and its Potlatch Collection, Albert Bay, will accompany the group.
Itinerary: Port McNeill, Vancouver Island; Alert Bay, Cormorant Island; Mimkwamlis (Village Island) and the outer islands of the archipelago.
Dates: July 5 to 9
Price: $1,730 per person, double occupancy, including four nights’ accommodations, meals, museum admission and excursions. Airfare from Los Angeles to Port Hardy, Vancouver Island, is not included.
