Gemstar’s profit is up fourfold

Gemstar TV Guide International Inc. reported higher first-quarter profit as its interactive program guides for cable and satellite TV drove revenue.
The Hollywood-based publisher of TV Guide magazine reported net income of $34.4 million, or 8 cents a share, compared with $8.6 million, or 2 cents, a year earlier. Revenue rose 9% to $156.7 million.
