Trapeze artist working without net dies in fall

A trapeze artist performing in a circus at Whittier Narrows Recreation Area slipped and fell 40 feet to his death Monday evening, authorities said.
The performer, described only as a Latino male about 35 years old, was performing without a net.
According to one report, the victim was a performer with Mexico-based Circus Vazquez, which has been touring California.
The victim struck his head after falling to the ground shortly after 6:30 p.m. Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department pronounced him dead at the scene.
It was not known how many spectators witnessed the fatal fall.
