The GOP is weak on defense

Re “Hey Rudy, we’re not wimps!” Opinion, April 27
Rosa Brooks writes a great column but fails to point out just who was in charge when 9/11 happened -- the Republicans. How can the people who were supposed to be keeping us safe when catastrophe hit be looked upon as the ones who will keep us safe the next time around?
The 9/11 terrorists caught our Republican administration flat-footed, even though we had glimpses of the terrorists’ playbook. How Republicans were able to use this defensive failure as a way to pump up their credentials as strong on defense is beyond me.
