Six Palestinians Are Killed in Clashes With Israeli Forces

GAZA CITY — Israeli forces killed six Palestinians on Monday in confrontations with militants in the Gaza Strip and West Bank, Palestinian security officials and medics said.
Three Palestinians died in a raid on an Islamic militant stronghold and two others in separate incidents in Gaza.
In the West Bank city of Ramallah, undercover troops killed a fugitive member of an armed wing of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah movement, medics said.
At least 180 people, more than half of them civilians, have been killed since Israel launched an offensive in June aimed at recovering a soldier seized by Palestinian militants and ending cross-border rocket fire.
Family and friends of the soldier, Cpl. Gilad Shalit, gathered Monday at the Kerem Shalom crossing between Israel and the Gaza Strip, near the site of his abduction, to mark his 20th birthday in a somber ceremony.
