Suspect’s Bail in Murder Case Cut

A Los Angeles judge Thursday reduced bail for a city fire captain accused of killing a female acquaintance.
David Jaime Del Toro, 50, was charged with murdering Jennifer Teresa Flores, 42, whose nude body was found on a street about one mile from Del Toro’s Eagle Rock home. Detectives found Flores’ blood on Del Toro’s truck and at his house.
Del Toro had been free on $1-million bail, but was re-arrested and his bail was reset to $5 million Wednesday, after prosecutors argued that he had tried to withdraw money from his bank accounts to flee.
Del Toro’s lawyer, Michael Bess, said Thursday that Del Toro had directed the credit union to issue the funds in a cashier’s check so the lawyer could draw on the money to cover his client’s expenses. Commissioner James N. Bianco accepted Bess’ explanation and dropped Del Toro’s bail back down to $1 million.
Del Toro was expected to be released Thursday.
