Florida: Put yourself in chef’s hands
“THIS is a gem of a restaurant in an area better known for burgers and huge portions of mediocre American food. Concept is small plates so you can share and try a number of menu items. Emphasis is on seafood and fresh, local items. Wines are paired with the seasonal menu by the glass or bottle. We ate at the counter of the exhibition kitchen and put ourselves in the chef’s hands. We were not disappointed.”
Entrees around $12.

Italy: Don’t miss this trattoria
“I’D like to recommend a trattoria in Florence that my family visits every time we’re in that wonderful city. Il Barroccio is a small, intimate, Tuscan restaurant owned by a delightful man named Gianni. He serves moderately priced, excellently prepared food in a warm setting. It’s the type of place that makes you feel like a regular on your first visit.”
Entrees around $17.
Il Barroccio, 31 Via della Vigna Vecchia, Florence; 011-39-055-211-503.
