A suspected gang-related shooting in Carson on Thursday afternoon left one person dead and three others -- including a pregnant woman -- seriously wounded, authorities said.
The attack occurred about 4:40 p.m. in a residential neighborhood near 228th and Figueroa streets. Two men in a white pickup exchanged gunfire with one or more people in a sedan that carried the woman and two men, said Lt. Tom Grubb of the Carson sheriff’s station.
It was not immediately known what provoked the shooting.
In all, more than 20 gunshots were believed to have been fired in the incident, Grubb said.
When the shooting ended, an 18-year-old male in the sedan was mortally wounded and pronounced dead at the scene by county paramedics.
The 20-year-old pregnant woman and a 30-year-old man, both seriously wounded, were taken to a hospital and listed in stable condition.
Also hit in the exchange was a 40-year-old ice cream vendor who was struck in the leg as he was pushing his cart.
None of the shooting victims were identified.
The two assailants escaped from the scene.
