You rent an aging, over-the-hill, former Cy Young winner for the last two months of his career, and give up on a young, All-Star shortstop. Then you turn around and give up on one of your top prospects for another shortstop.

So the Dodgers have acquired Greg Maddux for the stretch run. Would it not have made more sense to sign Gaylord Perry and in doing so not have to trade away Cesar Izturis?
