John Paul’s Aide Named Archbishop of Krakow

Pope John Paul II’s longtime aide, who worked with him for 40 years and cradled him in the Popemobile after a 1981 assassination attempt, was installed as archbishop of Krakow.
In a statement read during the ceremony, Pope Benedict XVI described Stanislaw Dziwisz as “the best person to hold this position.”
After John Paul’s death April 2, Dziwisz, 66, refused to carry out a provision in his will calling for his personal papers to be burned, arguing they hold “great riches.”
