Prosecutors to Appeal Millennium Plot Penalty

Federal prosecutors in Seattle said they would appeal the 22-year prison sentence a judge imposed last month on Ahmed Ressam, an Algerian national convicted of plotting to bomb Los Angeles International Airport on the eve of the millennium. Prosecutors had recommended 35 years.
The judge cited the extensive information Ressam provided about terrorist networks around the globe, but indicated that the sentence could have been even shorter had he testified against two alleged co-conspirators.
