Syria Unhelpful in Probe on Hariri, Official Says

Syria has refused to turn over documents and ignored interview requests in the U.N. investigation of the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, a top U.N. official said.
German prosecutor Detlev Mehlis, chief of the inquiry, believes that the Syrian silence has “considerably slowed down” the investigation, Undersecretary-General for Political Affairs Ibrahim Gambari told the Security Council.
Hariri’s assassination Feb. 14 triggered mass protests that brought down the pro-Syrian government.
