The Killers cash in on new ‘Fuss’

HILARY DUFF, Brad Paisley and 311 all entered the Top 10 on the new national album sales chart on Wednesday, but there was also a lot of action at No. 11. That’s where the Killers’ “Hot Fuss” landed after shooting up from No. 29 with sales of more than 60,000 last week, according to Nielsen SoundScan -- nearly double its total of the previous week.
Why the sudden surge for an album that’s been out for more than a year? Chalk it up to a new version that came out Aug. 16. The “limited edition” adds three new songs to the Las Vegas band’s hit debut, which has sold 2.4 million copies. That made it a must-have item for fans of singer Brandon Flowers and his bandmates.
The new configuration doesn’t get its own sales figure but is added into the “Hot Fuss” total, accounting for the rise on the chart.
Duff’s “Most Wanted,” a “best-of” compilation that includes three new songs and three remixes, sold nearly 208,000 copies in its first week in stores to debut at No. 1. Paisley entered at No. 2 with sales of 193,000 for “Time Well Wasted,” and 311 came in at No. 5 after selling 91,000 copies of “Don’t Tread on Me.”
