3 Fail to Make Special Election

Two Republicans and an independent candidate for an open Orange County congressional seat failed to qualify for the Oct. 4 special primary election, officials said Tuesday.
Failing to complete the required paperwork were GOP candidates Alan Gamson, an urban planner from Irvine; and Delecia Holt, a sociologist and real estate agent from Aliso Viejo. Al Salehi of Corona del Mar, who declined to state a party, also failed to qualify.
The remaining 17 candidates will appear on the ballot for the 48th Congressional District. If no one receives a majority of the vote, a special general election will be held Dec. 6 among the top vote-getters from each party.
