The Board of Supervisors asked the county’s executive officer Tuesday to determine whether the county’s Harbors, Beaches and Parks Department can have more autonomy.
The request came in response to a recent grand jury report criticizing the diversion of $7.5 million a year -- about $57 million in total -- from the department’s budget to help pay off the county’s bankruptcy debt.
A response to the board’s inquiry will be completed in 60 days, the chief executive said.
