Caremark Relabeled, Reused Drugs, Suit Says

Caremark Rx Inc. illegally relabeled and reused high-priced drugs that require special handling, four former employees said in a suit filed in California.
The former workers, two of whom have already filed suit against Caremark in Florida, said the company sold returned drugs to patients, including members of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System, according to the suit.
Caremark’s profit has been helped by sales of costly specialty drugs that are often injected and require refrigeration. Some of the drugs resold to patients may have been stored improperly and lost their effectiveness, the suit said.
“We do believe we have meritorious defenses against any such claims,” said Caremark spokeswoman Joan Gallagher.
