Eight Slain in Series of Attacks in Volatile South

Two gunmen killed a former politician in Thailand’s volatile south, bringing the weekend death toll to eight in attacks by suspected Islamic separatists, an official said.
Attackers shot Dam Sunsakul, 44, in Narathiwat’s Tak Bai district, police said. On Saturday, a villager died in a bombing, and a police officer and village defense volunteer were killed in shootings. In addition, gunmen shot a policeman, a businessman and a rubber plantation worker in Yala, and another policeman in Pattani, police said.
