Paul H. Nolte, 85; Leader With Volunteers of America 40-Plus Years

Paul H. Nolte, 85, who held several leadership positions with Volunteers of America in Los Angeles and statewide from the 1940s to 1987, died July 26 in Pasadena, his son, Bruce, said.
Born in Minneapolis, Nolte served in the Pacific as a Navy lieutenant during World War II and joined VOA in 1947. Ten years later, he became president of the Greater Los Angeles VOA, and was made western regional director in 1980. He retired in 1987.
Over the years, Nolte oversaw the formation by the VOA and millionaire businessman Ben Weingart of the Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Program at the Weingart Center. Nolte also helped in the formation of the Maud Booth Family Center and a low-income housing program, both in North Hollywood.
