‘Buck’ Buchanan, 59; Host of L.A. Radio Rock ‘n’ Roll Show

William Edgar “Buck” Buchanan III, 59, a radio announcer best-known as the host of the rock ‘n’ roll show “The Fifties at Five,” which aired in Los Angeles starting in the 1980s, died Aug. 7 of colon cancer at a hospital in Arcata, Calif., his daughter Sheila said.
Buchanan’s vintage rock music program aired locally on KRTH from the late 1980s to the early ‘90s. He was a radio announcer and music director for KRLA in Los Angeles in the early 1980s. He also was the host of an afternoon talk-radio show on KORL in Honolulu, where he lived in the 1970s.
Born in Atlanta, Buchanan was the adopted son of actor Edgar Buchanan, who played “Uncle Joe” on the popular ‘60s television series “Petticoat Junction.”
