Movies in 2-D

KENNETH TURAN is right in his assessment of why Hollywood movies have been ignored by audiences [“The Piper’s Being Paid,” July 31], but he doesn’t go far enough.
The movies are two-dimensional because two-dimensional people are making films for other two-dimensional people.
Before age 40 you don’t understand how rich, complex, delicious and tragic life is, and it’s moderately entertaining to see something get blown up a couple of times. Once that’s done, you want to sit in the dark and have something artful do for you what art is supposed to do: help illuminate life.
