From Times wire reports
County Fire Chief P. Michael Freeman will keep his job past the age of 60 after Tuesday’s decision by the Board of Supervisors to exempt him from mandatory retirement rules.
Los Angeles County firefighters hired before April 1997 must retire when they reach 60. But a state bill signed by Gov. Schwarzenegger last month allowed the county to make an exception for Freeman, enabling him to remain until April 2009.
Chief since 1989, Freeman will turn 60 later this month.
