M.K. Kanke ended a three-year NASCAR Elite Southwest Series victory drought with a near wire-to-wire win in the Stock Building Supply 150 on Saturday night at Irwindale Speedway.
Kanke started second and led for all but the second lap of the 150-lap race on the half-mile track, winning for the first time since March 23, 2002, at Cajon Speedway.
Pole-sitter Eddy McKean, who led the second lap, finished second, 1.428 seconds behind Kanke.
“The car pretty much ran flawlessly all day,” Kanke said. “I over-drove it in qualifying, but it had the corner speed.”
Pole sitter Travis Thirkettle won his second consecutive Auto Club Late Models race by besting Tim Huddleston in the 75-lap race on the half-mile track.
John Watkinson won the 35-lap Grand American Modifieds race on the one-third-mile track.
