Full public funding of campaigns is needed

Re “Hang their price tags around their necks,” Opinion, Aug. 3
I enjoyed Patt Morrison’s tongue-in-cheek suggestion that the geographical references that typically follow politicians’ names (e.g., R-Idaho or D-Florida) be replaced with “facts that matter,” such as who is funding their political campaigns.
I would ideally like to see a descriptor that read something like: “Rep. Phil N. Dablank (X-accountable solely to the public because his campaign is fully funded by the public).
If we want to be certain that our representatives are working for our best interests and not those of their biggest campaign contributors, we need to become their biggest campaign contributor. And the only way this can happen is if we adopt a clean-money system of full public funding of campaigns.
