A 45-pound dog that witnesses said attacked a 12-year-old boy was shot and killed by police Wednesday. The boy wasn’t bitten, but his clothing was ripped in the attack and his hand was scraped when he fell.
The killing occurred about 11:45 a.m., said Sgt. Lorenzo Carrillo, a spokesman for the Santa Ana police, when officers who were called to the 500 block of East Washington Street found the black chow mix sitting on the front porch of a house.
As police approached, Carrillo said, it “became aggressive” and “moved toward the officers.” One of them then shot the dog to death.
The incident is under investigation, Carrillo said.
