Dube Loses in Start for Ice Dogs

Goaltender Danielle Dube became the third woman to start a professional hockey game Wednesday night in the Ice Dogs’ 4-1 loss to San Diego before 1,633 at Long Beach Arena.

Dube had 18 saves.

Sylvai Deschatelets was alone in front of the net when he scored on a backhand shot over Dube’s glove 14:01 into the first period.

Clayton Read scored on a breakaway 1:41 into the second period after stealing a pass. Trevor Sherban added to the San Diego lead when his shot inside the right faceoff circle got past Dube’s pads.

The Gulls made it 4-0 when Sandro Sbrocca beat Dube (0-1-0) high on a two-on-one breakaway 5:05 into the final period.

Tyler Johnston scored for Long Beach 13:32 into the third period.

It was the second consecutive loss for Long Beach (11-10-0) after a four-game winning streak. San Diego (10-10-1) has won two games in a row.
