Deaton to Oversee Vacant Council Seat

City Council President Alex Padilla appointed chief legislative analyst Ron Deaton on Monday to serve as caretaker for the 8th Council District until a replacement for Mark Ridley-Thomas can be elected in March.
Deaton’s office traditionally takes on caretaker duties when a council seat is vacated. Ridley-Thomas resigned last week to serve in the state Assembly. Deaton will not have a vote on the council but can address constituent requests for services.
