We Earned It -- Tax Cuts Let Us Keep It

Robert Reich’s “A Winning $700-Billion Balancing Act” made for chilling reading. It was the epitome of naked class warfare. Karl Marx would have been very proud. Reich makes the taking of much of what’s left of one’s lifetime efforts to distribute to others sound almost sensible. “From each according to his abilities; to each according to his needs.” Sound familiar?

Fortunately, we still live in a capitalist society, where we can work hard all our lives with some assurance that our children will inherit the fruits of our labors. Reich made me appreciate, more than ever, why I vote Republican.

I see that Reich has come up with the magic elixir to defeat Republicans: a class-envy tax cut. Boy, that has never been used before. I will propose a better solution: Pass both the payroll and estate tax cuts. And remember, no tax cut costs the government a cent. The government does not earn anything. A tax cut merely allows working people, whether rich or poor, to keep what they have rightfully earned.

In the unlikely event that the Democrats would adopt Reich’s proposal, they’ll need a better slogan than the Republicans’, who undoubtedly would call it “class warfare.” One proposal: Bring back “the Fair Deal.”
