Rush for Free Clothing
At least 47 people were killed and scores injured in a stampede when thousands of people scrambled for clothes being given away in the northern Bangladesh town of Gaibandha, news reports said.
The United News of Bangladesh said nearly 10,000 people, mostly women and children, gathered outside the house of an affluent businessman after he announced he would distribute the clothes ahead of a festival.
The ATN Bangla television station also put the death toll at 47, including 14 people who died en route to the hospital.
