The Land of Eccentrics

I want to thank Diana Marcum for her article on Catalina’s Isthmus (“Buffalo Burgers in Paradise,” Sept. 17). I have never complained in the restaurant where she worked, but if I did, I would be able to tell my server that I have been coming to the isthmus for 40 years. Mostly I was touched by Marcum’s stories of Jimmy Walker. My family and I watched him and his gaudy orange-trimmed boat for years. Unfortunately, our interest in Walker never went beyond wondering why he chose that horrible color to trim all of his possessions. So thank you for reminding me what I should have learned long ago about books and their covers.
