Young Killers Eligible for Parole, Court Says

Two boys who were 10 years old when they tortured and killed a toddler in 1993 are eligible for parole, a British court ruled, reversing a politician’s decision to nearly double their minimum term. The two, who were tried as adults, could be released as early as February, Lord Chief Justice Woolf said. The ruling reversed a decision by a previous court and a Cabinet minister to increase their minimum terms to 15 years. Robert Thompson and Jon Venables were convicted in 1993 in the Liverpool killing of 2-year-old James Bulger.
