Local firefighters will flip pancakes Saturday to help raise money for a Yorba Linda family struggling to pay medical bills for 6-year-old Andrew Gunnin, who is being treated for leukemia.
The benefit breakfast will be 9 a.m. to noon at the Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace, just before the start of the annual Fiesta Days celebration at the same location on Yorba Linda Boulevard.
Tickets for the breakfast are $3 each. Orange County Fire Authority Station 10 employees will also host a raffle for various prizes. All proceeds will go to a fund to help the Gunnin family cover mounting medical expenses.
Andrew was diagnosed last year with leukemia and has been on chemotherapy, which has made his hair fall out and brought nausea and pain. Station 10 firefighters befriended him while responding to his home on a report of a smoke alarm sounding. Andrew is now in the “intensification” stage of treatment and will receive chemotherapy for the next 59 days.
For information on the breakfast, or to make a donation to the Gunnin medical fund, call Capt. Glenn Sekins at (714) 970-1216.
