If you think a Lorenzo Booker-led running game is the sole reason for St Bonaventure’s success, you haven’t heard enough about the Seraphs’ pass defense.
Nine players have combined for 17 interceptions in seven games, matching the team’s 14-game total last season.
“The greatest part of it is that the defensive backs credit the linemen [for their success] and the linemen credit the defensive backs,” Coach Jon Mack said. “We had two coverage sacks [in a 50-0 victory over Oak Park].”
Jashaun McCowan has a team-leading six interceptions for St. Bonaventure (7-0), which has outscored opponents by an average of 45-10 and has won 21 consecutive games. He needs two more to match the school record set by Andrew Montenegro in 1994 and equaled by Pat Devericks in ’97.
