A state grant for $220,000 to expand its preschool program has been withheld from the city for the past 10 months because city staff have been unable to find a location for additional trailers to house the Preschool ChildCare facility.
Members of the Community Services Department in charge of the program recently submitted a new possible location for the council to consider: a former Shakey’s Pizza parlor on 730 N. Beach Blvd.
“It’s really difficult to find a place with enough space, parking and a playground,” said Greg Kind, director of the Community Services Department.
The city currently operates five day-care centers that serve a total of 650 children.
Staff members are searching for other possible sites in north Orange County.
