LONG BEACH — A Los Angeles boy died Monday morning after he had been found unconscious in a pond Sunday afternoon at El Dorado Park.
Two-year-old Rosendo Ruiz died at 3 a.m. at the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, said Det. David Marander.
The pond was about 25 yards from a soccer game where his father was either a player or a spectator, police said. At least 50 people who were at the soccer game searched for the boy, Marander said.
Minutes before 2 p.m., the Long Beach Police Department received an emergency phone call from an unidentified person, saying the boy had been missing for about 20 minutes. When police arrived, the boy had already been pulled out of the eastern part of the pond by civilians in an area about 2 feet deep.
Long Beach officers and paramedics performed CPR, but they were not able to revive the boy, who was taken to the hospital.
