Cleaning Up on Tips

I am a devoted reader of Susan Spano’s Her World column. Regarding “To Find Decent Restroom Facilities, It Helps to Follow the Laws of the Loo” (Sept. 17), I was surprised that she did not mention McDonald’s right along with fine hotels.
On a 1996 trip in Eastern Europe, I was desperate in Vienna and, upon the recommendation of a tour companion, searched for the nearest McDonald’s. What a pleasure to find a clean, well-stocked restroom, with no admission charge, no problems and, possibly best of all, no attendant.

Regarding Spano’s advice to “give the [washroom] attendant a few coins; no doubt she needs them”: I would like to remind Spano and other women that no doubt you need the attendant. Attended facilities are always neater, cleaner and well stocked. Don’t skimp.
