The Marriage License Blues

Re “Path of True Love Leads South” (Oct. 12):

I must admit to a facetious feeling of “Oh, how awful” while reading of the heterosexual couples from Los Angeles County coming to Orange County just to get a marriage license. There is a certain bizarre nature to the idea that this piece of paper is so urgent that they couldn’t wait until the county workers’ strike ends.

Perhaps now they get a sense of how gay couples feel in having to wait indefinitely for this simple right that the rest of the world takes for granted. Perhaps this will awaken them to see that it is wrong to confine marriage to one particular arbitrary segment of the population.
