Accommodating a Film Shoot

Re “Film Shoot in Ventura Drawing Mixed Reviews,” Oct. 18.
Thanks for this accurate and interesting look into the behind-the-scenes process of getting things ready to make a motion picture in a working business district.
Hello, city of Ventura. We are jealous of you here in Simi Valley. You should feel special indeed to have your storefronts and some local citizens cast as extras, captured for posterity on film. And starring John Travolta no less.
For those who are whining, particularly those who operate the Main Street Antique Mall, I say you need to listen to your business neighbors and get behind this thing. Warner Bros. is blessing your city with millions in tax dollars, hotels, food, gas, car rentals, lumber, taxis and the unending list of things their drivers scoot all around town looking for each day.
Remember, if you create too much of a hassle for them they may never come back. Movies have to be made somewhere. If everything winds up in Canada, then most studio people throughout California will be out of work and unable to afford to buy anybody’s antiques.
