Al Britt, race director for the Orange County championships, is scrambling to find a new date for the meet, which was originally scheduled for April 14.
Britt learned this week that the Arcadia Invitational is scheduled the same day as the county championships. The Arcadia Invitational is recognized as the premier high school invitational on the West Coast, drawing most of the county’s top athletes.
Britt, who is also the boys’ and girls’ track coach at Esperanza, said his options are to hold the meet on April 7 or April 28, but neither date had been well accepted by a handful of coaches he polled.
Britt said April 21 is not an option because Esperanza is on spring break that week and finding enough volunteers would be impossible.
