While Nebraska maintained a firm grip on No. 1, Oklahoma moved up five spots to No. 3 in the Associated Press poll after Saturday’s victory over Kansas State. It is the highest ranking for the Sooners since 1987.
Virginia Tech is No. 2, Miami fourth and Clemson fifth.
In the ESPN/USA Today coaches’ poll, the top five are Nebraska, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Oklahoma and Miami.

Alabama sophomore quarterback Tyler Watts is out for the season because of a knee injury. . . . Georgia quarterback Quincy Carter is doubtful for Saturday’s game at Kentucky because of a bruised left shoulder. . . . Freshman Timmy Chang passed for two touchdowns Saturday night to lead Hawaii (1-4, 1-3 Western Athletic Conference) to a 30-15 victory over Southern Methodist (1-6, 0-3) at Honolulu.
