Feng Shui Course

Italian-born architect Simona Mainini, president of the L.A.-based design firm Feng Shui Architecture, will teach “Feng Shui for the 21st Century,” a six-week course, starting Monday.

Parade of Green Buildings

A Saturday and Oct. 22 tour of green, or environmentally sensitive, buildings in Greater Santa Barbara, preceded by a Friday night reception with architect Bruce Fowle, designer of Four Times Square, the new green skyscraper in Manhattan. The parade’s purpose is to educate the local building community and the general community about green practices.

Location: Six office-institutional buildings will be open on Saturday and five homes will be open on Oct. 22, with the 6:30 p.m. reception Friday at Cold Springs School, 2243 Sycamore Canyon Road, Montecito. Tickets are available at three branches of Santa Barbara Bank and Trust: 20 E. Carrillo St., 3910 State St. and 299 N. Fairview Ave., Goleta.

Time: Tour of green buildings, with information explaining the guiding philosophy of the project as well as the sustainable energy, water, materials, air quality and waste management features of the project, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cost: $25 for those who get there by way of arranged shuttle buses, carpool with three or more people per car, or bicycle; $30 by private car
