Protest of Coca Crop Eradication Ends

Security forces in Bolivia began the peaceful removal of roadblocks on the Andean nation’s main highway after the government and coca growers ended a 27-day standoff that cut off the movement of people and food in a dispute over eradicating coca, the raw material of cocaine. The Bolivian government offered $80 million to encourage farmers to grow pineapples and bananas instead of the lucrative coca leaves.
