Dos Pueblos 24, Rio Mesa 0--The Spartans were competitive for one half, holding Dos Pueblos to a 3-0 halftime lead at San Marcos High.
Rio Mesa’s hopes were dashed in the third quarter when the Chargers (4-2) scored three times in six minutes, including two touchdowns by Jay Staggs.
Staggs returned a Chris Davis punt 53 yards for a score at 10:04, and closed the scoring at 4:35 with a 79-yard touchdown reception from sophomore Shane Lopes. David Mackenzie scored on a 22-yard run with eight minutes to play following Omar Montepeque’s second of two interceptions.
Lionel Carrizales completed nine of 23 passes for 82 yards for Rio Mesa (1-5).
John Cerda carried 18 times for 43 yards in three quarters for the Spartans.
