Burroughs Uses Defense to Smother Canyon, 32-7

Burroughs High opened the season with three consecutive losses, but the Indians are tied for first in the Foothill League after a big defensive effort Friday night.
Burroughs had five interceptions and three sacks in a 32-7 victory over host Canyon.
Twice Burroughs (2-4) scored on its first play following a Cowboy turnover.
After linebacker Jeff Barrett’s second interception of the game, Lorin Salmon completed a 39-yard touchdown pass play to Keith Jarbo that put Burroughs ahead, 12-0, at halftime.
In the third quarter, following a 47-yard interception return by Jarbo, Mike Perez raced untouched 43 yards for a touchdown. Perez rushed for 99 yards in 14 carries.
Bobby Mendoza added two one-yard touchdown runs for Burroughs.
Mark Barr had 100 yards in 12 carries for Canyon (3-3).
Colin MacNeil scored on a one-yard run with 2:44 to play for the Cowboys.
