Mater Dei Catcher Commits to Play Baseball at Arizona

Catcher Richard Mercado has committed to play baseball at Arizona, according to Mater Dei Coach Burt Call.
Mercado, a senior who will be the Monarchs’ team captain in 2001, hit .400 with 36 runs batted in at Mater Dei last season.

Orange County team owner Cal Wells III announced Thursday that PPI Motorsports crew chief Brad Parrott is being replaced by Scott Houston on Wells’ Winston Cup team.
Parrott was hired mid-season for Scott Pruett’s car, but Parrott and Wells agreed to part ways.
Houston, 35, worked in the engineering department for PPI, which operates its CART open-wheel racing program out of Rancho Santa Margarita.
