Santa Ana Valley rolled to its third consecutive victory Thursday night, beating Orange, 42-12, in a Century League opener at El Modena High.
The Falcons (4-2) were dominant throughout, rolling up 460 yards in total offense and essentially scoring at will. Defensively, they held the winless Panthers to less than 200 yards and, if not for two broken plays, the Falcons might have posted a shutout.
And Santa Ana Valley might have scored more, except that it was penalized 11 times for 103 yards.
Fullback Junior Iafeta rushed 13 times for a game-high 91 yards and two touchdowns, and teammate Mapu Leausaoga had 65 yards in nine carries, including an eight-yard touchdown run.
Junior quarterback James Burgueno completed 11 of 22 passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns.
Iafeta scored on a one-yard first-quarter run and an eight-yard run late in the third. Burgueno threw touchdown passes to Gregory Robert and to Lance Johnson, who also scored on a 66-yard run.
After Johnson’s touchdown run, Jeremy Poole ran back the kickoff 88 yards for Orange (0-6). Reserve quarterback Joe Perez scrambled for a 16-yard touchdown for Orange’s second touchdown.
Perez was playing because starting quarterback Justin Trejo suffered a severe groin injury in the third quarter.
