LOS ANGELES — The J. Paul Getty Trust announced the appointment Thursday of Philip Nowlen, the longtime academic director of the Museum Management Institute, as head of the new Getty Leadership Institute.
Since 1986, Nowlen had served as academic director of the Museum Management Institute, an intensive three-week executive program held at UC Berkeley. The program brings together senior executives from a range of museums to explore strategy and management.
Nowlen will continue to refine the museum institute’s curriculum and oversee its faculty, as well as providing strategic direction to the Leadership Institute, which will work to strengthen professionals and institutions in the not-for-profit field, Getty officials said.
Nowlen also will work with Getty staff to examine new approaches to adult education and lifelong learning, the officials said.
