Drug Re-Importation
* Am I the only person who thinks Congress has lost a few marbles lately? I am referring to the bill in process to buy back prescription drugs from foreign countries, where they are sold at a lower price, and then sell them to American consumers at a reduced price. The FDA will have to certify the strength and efficacy before they can be sold. This adds a greater burden on the FDA than necessary.
My question is: Why not buy them from the manufacturers that are already in this country? Or why not just put price controls into effect? Either of these choices seems easier than exporting the drugs and then turning around and importing them.
